About St Kilda
St Kilda is a remarkable place. It is situated on one of the most picturesque points of Port Phillip Bay only a short distance from the city.
This bayside suburb is now one of Melbourne's main tourist destinations and is renowned not only for its beaches and bayside setting but also for its abundance of cool cafes, well-regarded restaurants and popular bars.
In addition there's a selection of independent music and book stores, as well as a growing collection of fashion boutiques.
How to get to St Kilda Laughs Festival & other St Kilda Festival events by public transport
The easiest way is by tram, with each route taking about 25-30 minutes from the city:
#16 from Swanston Street - goes along St Kilda Rd then Fitzroy & Carlisle Sts.
#96 from Bourke Street - goes along Fitzroy St, The Upper Esplanade & Acland St, ending at Barkly St.
#112 from Collins Street - travels through South Melbourne & Middle Park and ends at Fitzroy St near the beach. Then it's a 10 minute walk up Acland St to the heart of the festival.
Note: The #96 and #112 trams will also get you to The Butterfly Club in South Melbourne as will the #1 tram which starts in East Coburg and runs via Nicholson Street, Lygon Street, Swanston Street (in the City), St Kilda Road, Southbank Boulevard along Park Street.
You can also take the following buses:
#246 from Clifton Hill - goes all along Hoddle St and Punt Rd, then down Barkly St (past Acland & Carlisle Sts) before ending at Elsternwick railway station.
#600 from Southland - goes from Southland shopping centre in Cheltenham, along Mitford, Barkly and Grey Sts and ends at St Kilda station on Fitzroy St.
